Interview with Cheryl Bernard

Calgary-Neil Regan’s “uneventful days” have changed since he started working as a donation attendant just over a year ago at Goodwill’s Chinook store and donation Centre. Regan, 26 is one of several Calgarians Goodwill is featuring for the “I Am Able to Work” campaign. The campaign marks Disability Employment Awareness Month in Canada (DEAM) this October.  The City of Calgary proclaimed DEAM on October 2nd.

Having a job “definitely made me feel I’m contributing more to society,” says Regan. “Before this job I used to hate talking to people on a daily basis and thanks to this job I’ve been able to do this more often,” adds Regan. Goodwill is sharing videos and blogs featuring the stories of Calgarians working in the community including Regan to change the conversation from disability to ability to work. Less than half of working age Canadians with disabilities are employed.
