Wondering what happens to unsold items that you donate to the thrift store? While we can’t speak for all Calgary thrift stores, we can tell you that unsold items at Goodwill are shipped to other locations to be sold or recycled/upcycled. For example, unsold items from our second-hand stores in Calgary are first taken to a Goodwill outlet. At the outlet, they are listed at a discounted price. If we can’t sell them at this discounted price, they are given a second life through our Reuse and Recycling Program. In this case, the items are sent to a textile recycler or another company to be transformed into new materials.
