Special Meeting of the Society
January 24, 2020 - Edmonton, Alberta A special meeting for the Society of Goodwill Industries of Alberta will be taking place on Tuesday, February 18,...
First to show up with a smile on her face, ready to work, and the first to lend a helping hand, Tyrell is one of many amazing Goodwill employees who goes above and beyond to help others both in the workplace and in the greater community.
This August will be my fifth year at Goodwill! I'm so proud to have been at Goodwill Varsity for the full five years and excited to be a part of the renovations that took place in 2021, as we upgraded the store for a more pleasurable experience.
Over the past few years, I have built so many amazing, long-lasting relationships. Regardless of anyone's future endeavors many of us manage to stay in touch. I have never been a part of a work community in which everyone is so close, many coworkers I would also consider good friends. I am able to strengthen these relationships by taking the time and effort to learn about other people, their culture, religion, passions, and defining traits. Goodwill has provided us with a welcoming environment that ultimately results in everyone coming to work with a positive, uplifting attitude. At the Varsity location, we love to decorate the employee areas to make them as enjoyable as possible.
It would have to be shoes, definitely love shoes.
I am definitely a morning person, I take pride in my hair as it's one of my trademarks so I wake up around 4:45 am to start the hair styling process. Usually, I am one of the first people to come in for work and I like to make sure everyone's day starts off well by putting a smile on my face and spreading positive energy.
I think they would describe me as a positive, friendly person who they can always count on for a good laugh and someone that is always there to lend a helping hand.
If I could change one thing in the world, it would have to be the acceptance of diverse communities and being more open to learning and educating themselves on various cultures. I think a good place to start would be looking at the education system that teaches our youth and how it can be a channel to appreciating other cultures.
My ideal way of spending a day off is with my kids. Whether it is watching my two older kids dance in Pow Wows or taking the whole family to watch one, it is definitely an activity that brings the whole family together. Instilling our culture with my kids is very important to me. I am so proud of who they are growing up to be and I want them to be proud of our culture and who we are as well.
I am so thankful for the team of diverse individuals who work alongside me at Goodwill. Asking questions is encouraged and when I first started, I asked a lot of them but everyone was so open to listening and helping. Five years later, I now make it a goal of mine to help out new employees and make them feel welcome as so many have done for me over the years. Many of us are with our fellow co-workers as much as we are with our families so I believe it is important to have respect for one another and make the workplace an enjoyable place to be!
